When I was eight years old, my great grandmother (GG) left me her bedroom set. I used it all throughout my childhood, and then brought it to our household when I became a bride 20 years ago. Although we replaced the double bed with a king size bed some time ago, we still held on to all of the pieces of furniture, thinking that some day, one of our girls would use this furniture.
Only, we were still using it. But slowly, Bekah has started using the furniture...first with the chest of drawers which I painted to match her new London themed room, and now with the rest of the furniture.
Once we got our new furniture, we moved the dresser out of our room and I started to work painting it. You know, you don't really realize how many grooves and angles there are in a piece of furniture until you're painting it - and two colors at that. I worked so hard at making sure the two paint colors didn't bleed over into each other (for two coats, mind you) that I was SO SORE the next day.
David laughed at me for being sore for sitting in the floor. But I told him, "No, I wasn't sitting in the floor! I was holding yoga poses while painting the dresser from all angles! I was yoga-painting!)
So David decided that the rest of the painting should not be done in the floor and SET THE DRESSER ON THE KITCHEN TABLE.
Yes. Yes he did. But he loves me like that. David borrowed a projector and we projected the image onto the dresser.
Then I traced the image onto the dresser with a silver sharpie.
Took a bit, but I got it done. So thankful I didn't have to freehand it!
After that, I put on a layer of Kilz. I have to say, I wasn't that impressed. I kind of thought it would go on a lot better than that.
Then I put on a couple of coats of white paint. Again, with the grooves and details in this furniture. Took FOREVER...but I got it done.
We were up against a deadline! We would be leaving soon for our anniversary trip, and I needed everything cleaned up in the house before Aunt Judi came!
The day before we left, David put a quick coat of paint on the headboard, foot board, and mirror. He set it all up in the corner of the living room so the paint could cure.
And now finally, we are back from our trip, and David is back from his trip to Morocco, and the paint has sufficiently cured!
We cleaned all of the stored office items out from under Bekah's bed (no small feat) got her some storage bins, and moved in her new furniture. It looks SO GREAT!!
And now I have a desk in my living room, ready to sell! Ha ha! The musical furniture continues! Now if we can just get this sold before David leaves for the Philippines!
