Her hard work pays off!

Here is the final copy of Lydia's book report. She worked on it very diligently...writing as neatly as she could, watching her punctuation, spelling, and capitalization.

While working on it, she turned to me and said, "Mommy, I'm working on this so hard that my brain is sweating!"

Nina Nina Ballerina - Book Report - Sloppy Copy

Lydia is doing a book report on Nina Nina Ballerina.

We worked on the sloppy copy of her book report tonight. I think she did a great job. (She has to draw a picture from the book as well...so she drew a practice picture tonight.)
You can click on the image to see it bigger. Here's what it says:

evre wek nina gos to dese clas to be a Ballerina.
(Every week Nina goes to dance class to be a ballerina.)

Her class will be Butterflies in a dans.
(Her class will be butterflies in a dance.)

Nina is ufrad
(Nina is afraid)
Her mommy wont know wich one is Nina. Then Nina broke Her erme (arm) and she was a butterfly with a brokein (broken) wing. Naw (Now) Nina's mommy can tell wich one nina is!

I think it's really cute and she did a great job!! =) Now we'll work on the final copy together!

Modesty...

Rebekah was singing a Barlow Girl song about how fashion today does not value modesty.

From the song, Clothes, she was singing the line:

"Modesty is out the door..."

Lydia quickly corrected her!

"It doesn't say 'Modesty is out the door.' It says 'MY FRIEND STEVE is out the door.'"

Hahahaha!!! Too funny.

I had to tell her that it did actually say "Modesty is out the door."

So funny what little ears here.

English...

Now, I'm not commenting one way or another on the whole "English Only" debate.

I'm just saying this:

If you're going to make a sign saying everyone in the US should learn English, then learn it yourself before you make a sign or you look like an idiot.

Kirkpatrick Photos

Through some correspondence with a fellow genealogist, I have received some more photos of the Kirkpatrick family (David's great-grandmother's family).

Up until this time, I only had this photo of Granny Mac and her brothers, sisters, father, and mother. (That's Granny Mac on her mother's lap.)

Shortly after this photo was taken, Granny Mac's mother died.

I didn't have any photos of Edward Kirkpatrick with his second wife, Olevia, who raised Granny Mac. But now we do, and I'm very happy about it.

Here is a photo of Edward, Olevia and their children (and one grandchild).

From left to right:
Mary Kirkpatrick, Billy Fred McLarrin (Granny Mac's son), Edward, holding Lois, Olevia, holding Eddress, William, with his dog Brownie, and Opal standing in the back.

Here's a photo of Edward and Olevia with their twins, Bonnie Sue and Bettie Lou, around 1947.

And another one in 1950.

Edward looks quite a bit older than Olevia in this picture...well, because he was. He was 27 years older than she was. He was about 67 here.

And here is the final picture. That's Edward Kirkpatrick on the right, but we don't know who the other gentlemen are. The SS Dellwood was a real ship that sailed along the western coast to Alaska. David figures that this photo must have been taken at a fair or something, as the entire background is painted, and the sign says "Leaving Little Rock." Very interesting.

Silly Bandz

When Bekah got her allowance on Friday, she knew just what she wanted to do with it. And since she never spends her money, we knew she really wanted this...

Lydia and I were going to Marlee's birthday party, so she and Daddy went to the mall and found some Silly Bandz!!

She bought three packs (buy two, get one free), a princess pack, a sea pack, and an alphabet pack.

She is on cloud nine!!

(She counted, and now she has 90 Silly Bandz!) ha ha!!

Marlee's birthday party

Lydia was invited to Marlee's birthday party today.

It was a lovely tea party.

The girls all came dressed up beautifully.

And then added hats, gloves, feather boas, and necklaces...

...and copious amounts of glitter.

They had tea sandwiches, strawberries and whipped cream, and a tea pot birthday cake...

...and then watched Marlee open her presents.

After that, they had a big dance party.

And this little girl reminded me of Junie B Jones so much it was funny!!

Haiti Benefit

David is working as Production Manager at a huge Haiti benefit here in Nashville.

A bunch of country, indie and Christian music artists are playing a benefit concert and local artists are donating art for auction.

David asked if I'd be interested in donating something.

Yes, I think I will.

I finished this tonight.

I like it. =)

Thursday, February 04, 2010

I received this in an email today...

...if I didn't feel old before...well...

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today...
The people who are starting college this fall were born in 1992.
They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
Their lifetime has always included AIDS.
The CD was introduced two years before they were born.
They have always had an answering machine.
They have always had cable.
Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.
Popcorn has always been microwaved.
They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.
They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.
They never heard: "Where's the Beef?" or "de plane Boss, de plane."
McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.
They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.
