Lumberjack Lydia

Lydia wanted to ride her bike on the back patio...

But apparently the firewood was in her way...

So what's a little girl to do?

I'll tell you.
Pitch that wood in the yard!

I'm glad I came outside before she had moved the whole stack!
(Here she is moving the wood to an appropriate wood pile...silly thing!)
I guess she's our Lumberjack Lydia!

School photos!!!

The girls' school picture proofs came back today. I've been waiting! Yea! (I'm so weird about pictures!! Getting the proofs is like Christmas or something!!)

Rebekah's two pictures look almost exactly the same, but I think we're going to get the second one.

Lydia's are totally different, so it's an easy choice. We'll be choosing the second one.

(She told us that she wanted to do a curtsy for the picture, but they wouldn't let her - thus the funny face in the first picture...somehow funny face makes up for the lack of curtsy. Who knew?)

Three Foot Two Eyes of Blue

I was listening to a Five Foot Two - Eyes of Blue friend/singer (friend who's a singer/songwriter) when I did this page.

So I guess this layout is inspired by Meghan...and her super-cool website.

Evelyn's party

Today we went to Evelyn's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese.

Poor Lydia. She kept feeding her tickets into the ticket muncher and not getting her receipt!!

Bekah came back with this picture she had taken. Made us all laugh.

She said, "I wasn't tall enough!!"
You can see she's missing her two top teeth in the photo.

Oh yeah! Bekah lost another tooth. Now she's missing both top teeth!
We tried again later - just Bekah and me. (Lydia was too busy running all over the place!)
I love how it turned out.

Birthday money...

Lydia spent some of her birthday money today...
She bought this dress-up dress with her money from Mammy & Pappy...
And this singing Barbie doll (which she played over and over and over again...and named Mary Kate) with her money from GG.

Bob's progress

Bob's treatments are hitting him hard, but he's still able to drive himself to the treatments for now.
.
Please continue to pray for him as he goes through his cancer treatments. His doctor told him that his job right now was to take care of himself and that's what he's focusing on.
.
I just wanted to post an update and let those of you who are praying know how things are going. Bob's feeling rough, so he really needs your prayers. And remember to keep Jeanette (as she runs the family business and takes care of Bob) and their five kids in your prayers too.

So smart...

Rebekah had already studied her spelling words...but I was quizzing her on the only one she missed a few hours earlier.
She asked David if he could spell "neighbor."
Playing dumb, he said,
N-A-B-E-R.
Rebekah thought this was hysterical. He asked her how to spell it and she said:
N-E-I-G-H-B-O-R
He said, "You're so smart! You get that from your mother!"
And Rebekah replied, "AND from my spelling list!"
So funny!

Grandma Book by Rebekah

Gradmoa
by Rebekah

This is Jamy Stewrt

And she's my mom's mom! Isint that fany? (funny)

She has 1 sister and 1 bruther.

School was horababul. (horrible) The grils were not alod to waer pats (pants).

But the risin I love her is becas she's my Grandmoa!

What do you do when your child's grammar is better than her teacher's?

This is the issue that we're dealing with this week.

Rebekah brought home her spelling testing, on which she spelled all of her words correctly. But they are also graded on English and Penmanship. Rebekah's teacher marked off that her second sentence had incorrect English - when it actually does not.

Rebekah wrote:

I wish I were there.

Her teacher said that it should be:
I wish I was there.

However, Rebekah is correct. It's the subjunctive mood and the correct word is "were" in this situation.

How does Rebekah know this? I have no idea. But she is correct.

I asked her about how the sentences are given - if the teacher tells them to write their own sentence using one of their spelling words - or if she reads off a sentence to them that they are supposed to write.

Rebekah said that the teacher reads the sentence to them and they are just supposed to write it. Then she said, "But 'I wish is was there' just didn't make any sense to me. I thought it should be 'I wish I were there'!" I told her that she was correct. She said, "No. See. She marked it as wrong. It should be was."

I explained that the teacher was incorrect and that Rebekah was actually correct. Rebekah said, "Good. Because it just didn't sound right to me." But I told Bekah that we needed to keep this between us and that she didn't need to talk to her teacher about it. She asked why, and I explained that teachers don't normally like to be told that they are wrong by their students. I think she understood.

Interesting though...I didn't know about the subjunctive mood until college...but Rebekah is correcting her second grade teacher's grammar on a spelling test.

Lydia's Birthday Party

Lydia's princess birthday party was a big success.

We made a cardboard castle out of refrigerator boxes and it was a big hit.

Here's Lydia posing with her castle.

And here she is with her cake.

We made dragon eggs with little prizes inside and Rebekah hid them around the yard. Here's everyone finding their prizes.

Then they played "Pin the Kiss on the Frog." That was a big hit.

And then we played "Princess and the Pea." I read the book to them and then placed a pea (green bouncy ball) under one of three pillows. Each princess had to sit on the three pillows and say which pillow had the pea under it. They all had a lot of fun (and all the princesses must be "true" princesses because they all found the pea!!).

Then it was time for cake...

And then choosing which "jewels" (colored ice) they would like in their pink lemonade.

And watching "Barbie and the Twelve Dancing Princesses" while they ate their cake.

Lydia had a blast opening her presents as well. She was so animated.

And then there was more time to play in the castle - now wearing more dress up things she received for her birthday!!

In the end, David and I were exhausted, but the house was clean and we had a very happy little girl. It was a lot of fun!!

What a little lady...
And look what I caught our little princess doing...

After which she yelled, "I'm freeee!"
