Renovations, Touchups, and New Furniture

We did it.  We finally sold Lydia's castle bed.  She held onto it nostalgically for so long, but finally was ready for a "more mature" room.  Once we started, we kept going.  We sold her bins and her cabinets.  We gave her dresser to Jack and Courtney for the new baby (along with the matching crib and changing table).
Oh, and we started tearing apart our room as well, because Rebekah needed a dresser instead of a desk. So the dresser next to the bed, that will be hers.
So, sorry the "before" photos are after we already started tearing apart the room...
But then we had a snow day.  School was closed.  The office was closed.
We set to work.  Moved everything out of our room and Lydia's room. Our living room was a disaster!!
The kitchen turned into "Good Will Central" and I sorted and catalogued everything we would be donating. And I sorted what would end up in the trash as well.
And we painted the snow day away. Lydia's room went from pink and purple to turquoise and dark brown.
Thank you to Mom for giving Lydia your beautiful cherry bedroom set that was in the garage.  She LOVES it!! She's especially excited about the makeup mirror.
Now David just has to build Lydia a bed (with room underneath for storage) and we will be good to go!
Not to be outdone, David and I made some changes in our room as well.  We took out the dresser to prepare it for Rebekah.
And we bought some new furniture.  You know, I don't think we realized just how few drawers we had between the two of us (only six).  Everything else was hanging up or stored in bins under the bed.  We wasted no time or making sure we had PLENTY of drawers!!
The armoir is still in our room for now.  it holds all my scrapbooking stuff.  We will eventually move it out, but it stays there for now.
We moved the bookshelf from the kitchen into our bedroom, and got a new console table and two matching chest of drawers.
So, yes, we are playing musical furniture.  But it is SO paying off!  We have purged so much stuff and it's so wonderful to have a place for all of our clothes!

Next up, Bekah's room!

Report Cards - 2nd Nine Weeks

The girls got their report cards today and I'm anxious to show you.
Rebekah got four A's and two B's.

English I Honors: 98 - A

Spanish I: 94 - A

Algebra I: 96 - A

Biology I: 89 - B

Lifetime Wellness (PE/Health): 100 - A

AP Human Geography: 86 - B

In the school district, the kids get an extra half-point for each honors class and an extra point for each AP class added to their GPA.  GPA is calculated based on the semester grade (highlighted in green) which is calculated by averaging the two quarter grades and the exam grade. Since the GPA is calculated based on the semester grade, they are the grades that count for scholarships.  Right now, Bekah has a 3.917 GPA.  Very good start!

Lydia got three B's and three A's.

Language Arts - 86 - B

Math - 81 - B

Science - 86 - B

Social Studies - 93 - A

Chorus - 100 - A

General Music - 100 - A

Lydia gets semester grades as well, calculated similarly to Bekah's, but they don't affect a GPA, scholarships, etc.  They are just trying to get the kids in the mindset of these grades to prepare them for high school.  As usual, Lydia is rocking her Social Studies class, and loving the choir and music classes.

Good semester for both the girls!

New Year's Eve 2015

New Year's Eve found us invited to the Redmons' house to play some games and ring in the new year. The introduced us to a game called Fish Bowl.
Everyone writes down several clues that go in the fish bowl.  Then you break into teams and you have to get your team to guess as many clues as you can in one minute.
  • Round 1: Player can use only words to describe the answer, without saying any words that are part of the answer
  • Round 2: Player can only use only actions to get his/her team to guess the word.
  • Round 3: Player can say only one word to get his/her team to guess the clue, so he/she must choose carefully!

Oh my gosh! This was so fun! All of the misunderstandings and all of the funny guesses!  It was great.  The funniest was one that Bryan put in the fishbowl: radish.
Only, he misspelled it "raddish." And he wrote it all in caps, so instead of it looking like "RADDISH" it looked like "RAPDISH."  When Lauren first drew this clue, she had no clue what a rapdish was (because it's not a thing) but she tried to get her team to guess it anyway.  But the second round, Lydia and Emma cracked us up by "rapping" and getting us to guess radish!
We were all dying laughing!  It was too funny!
Soon it was time to ring in the new year.  All the kids stood on one leg, so they could "start off the new year on the RIGHT foot."  Har har!  (Eye roll)
Happy New Year, everyone!!
