Camouflage

Lydia: Mom, are there animals that have camouflage?
Jayna: Yeah, there's the chameleon, of course.
Lydia: Yeah, but what else?
David: Elephants.
Lydia: Elephants?
David: Yeah, elephants.  Do you want to know how they camouflage themselves?  They paint their toenails red and hide in cherry trees.
Lydia: Daddy! No, they do not!
David: Yes, they do!  And I can prove it!
David: Have you ever seen an elephant in a cherry tree?

Genealogy Find for the Stewart Family

Every once in a while, I'll google the name of an ancestor to see if a photo pops up of him/her.

Yesterday, my googling paid off and I hit the jackpot on my Stewart/Adams side of the family.

My grandfather was Marcus de Lafayette Stewart.
His father was Benjamin Franklin Stewart.
He is pictured here, in the middle of the front row.  These are his brothers and sisters with him.

Benjamin Franklin Stewart's parents were Marcus Lafayette Stewart and Nancy Jerlean Adams.
(So Benjamin named his son after his father and he had a daughter named Jerlean Nancy Stewart after his mother.)

This is Marcus Lafayette Stewart, my great, great grandfather.

And this is his wife, Nancy Jerlean Adams Stewart.

This photo is of the two of them together.

This photo is of Nancy Jerlean Adams and her siblings.  She is standing, second from the left.

This is Nancy's father, Rev. Jeremiah Moody Adams.

Here he is with his brother, Benjamin Adams.

A lot of family names were passed down here.  It leads to more than a little confusion!  But I'm so pleased to find these photos!

Miranda's wedding

Congratulations to my niece, Miranda Stewart, for her wedding this month to Tim Hill.

Miranda is my half-brother, Paul's daughter.

Here are a few pictures of the ceremony and wedding party.

And here are a few shots with family members.

This may make for a boring post...

...but the girls are SUPER excited.

We just got the girls some new tennis shoes for school.

Bekah chose these Nikes.  We found them at the first store we checked.

For Lydia, though, we had a more difficult time.  I guess we waited too late in the school year to buy shoes - or every other little girl with a size 1 to 1.5 shoe had the same taste in shoes as Lydia.

She'd find a pair she liked, and they wouldn't have her size.  We checked seven different stores before stumbling on a shoe store in Spring Hill that had these Skechers in size 1.5.  Lydia was BEYOND thrilled.

So, like I said, this may make for a boring post, but it's about some very exciting finds for our girls!  Ha ha!

Safety Patrol

Rebekah has decided to sign up for Safety Patrol at school.  On the application, it asks that the child write a small paragraph explaining why she is qualified to serve on the HES Safety Patrol.
Here's Rebekah's application.  She wrote:

"I am very responsible and I only lied once in my life.  I have won honor roll and the key of exilence: onrship (ownership), in 3rd grade.  I am very cheerful and I like to smile (don't worry I'll brush my teeth).  I have now finished my paragraph please return this to Mr. A when you have decided."

Seventy Times Seven

Lydia and Bekah were having a discussion in the backseat and I didn't quite catch what it was about...but I heard Lydia said, "I'm really sorry, Bekah."

We asked what was going on and Lydia said that Rebekah wasn't going to forgive her for tearing her TIME for Kids magazine until it was fixed.  (For reference, this happened a few weeks ago.)

David said, "Bekah, it doesn't work that way."

And I said, "Bekah, what does the Bible say about forgiveness?"
Bekah said, "I don't know. I haven't gotten to that part yet."

Buah-hahahaha ha ha ha!!

Helpful

Lydia has been so anxious to help out in the kitchen lately.  She kept coming up to me and asking what she could do next.  I told her she could wash the kitchen table.  She promptly did so and then returned.  What else could she do?

"You can wash the pots in the kitchen sink."
"Okay!" She said excitedly.

I came back in the kitchen as she was drying the pots and preparing to put them away.  They were sparkling.  Then I spied something that seemed a bit out of place.  A Windex bottle?
"Lydia, did you use Windex to clean these pots?"
"Yes," she said, quite confidently.  (I mean, the pots were sparkling clean.)

After a quick lesson in the appropriate cleaner, I think she'll be ready for the next stack of dirty dishes.  Ha ha!

Arrington Vineyards

On Friday night, Jon & Rachel invited us out to Arrington Vineyards with a bunch of their friends and Jon's co-workers.
We stayed until dark...the moon was full.

And the kids were silly!
Apparently Jon & Rachel are only friends with people who have girls.  LOL!  And this is only seven of the twelve girls that were there that night!
