Spring Hill Kids' Marathon

Lydia was pumped and ready to go for her second Spring Hill Kids' Marathon.  Just check out this game face!!
She gathered around with her other friends and classmates and got ready for the race. Honestly, there was a lot of chasing going on before the race.  I kept telling her to save her energy for the mile she was about to run!!
For the kids' marathon, the kids run 25 miles in the days leading up to the race, and then run the final mile in the "kids' marathon." Coach Perry gave them some tips before the race, and then they took off!!
As Lydia ran around the school building, we headed over to the track to meet her at the finish line. She took off around the track.
And then we saw her pass the checkered flags and grab her medal. She was a little winded!!
She did a great job and had a great attitude.
And, to top it all off, she made the Heritage Highlights this week.  See her there with her fellow racers?  She's number 181.
I'm so glad she has these opportunities to flex her racing muscles.  =)

Checking Out Rebekah's School and Other Fun Things

After the band concert the other night, Rebekah wanted to show us her locker.
She is SO FUNNY!  She "Bad Wolfed" her locker.  Yeah.  I don't really know.  Something from Dr. Who.

Anyway, she has the end locker, so she even utilizes the outside of the locker for some of her stuff.  No one takes anything, so I guess it's fine.  Silly girl.  =)
Well, on the way to the locker, what do we see, but THIS! The Hornet Heroes have been posted in the kiva.
So of course, I have to get a picture of my girl with her Hornet Hero posting!!  So exciting!!
And then Bekah got this post card from her Language Arts teacher this week.
How sweet is that?

And she just got her Battle of the Books medal as well!!
This has just been Bekah's year!!

Nukem Tournament

The fifth grade classes have been competing in a Nukem tournament.  What is Nukem, you ask?  Well, I haven't actually seen the game played, but apparently it's similar to volleyball, except that you actually catch the ball and throw it over the net.  If someone on the other team doesn't catch the ball, they are out, until the entire team is eliminated.

Sounds fun, right?

Welll, you know what's even more fun?  Having your class be undefeated in the Nukem tournament.  Lydia's been so excited about this all week!!

Well, last Friday was the final day of the Nukem tournament - the winning 5th grade class was playing the teachers!!  And to make it super awesome, one of the parents anonymously made these T-shirts for the winning team.
So Lydia's class got to wear these awesome T-shirts while she and her classmates played against the teachers.

She was so excited (and oh-so-confident that they would defeat the teachers as well).  They didn't. But they had a lot of fun trying!

Spring Fling and Choir Concert

On Friday night, Lydia's school had their annual Spring Fling - a fundraiser hosted by the PTO.  Lydia's Glee Club was performing while the silent auction was taking place.

Well, one of the super fun things about it is that the middle school choir joined Glee for a few songs. So I was running back and forth trying to get pictures of both of my girls singing!!
Lydia's choir sang the songs they've been working on this year.  And Bekah's choir did some of the choreography that they've been practicing for their upcoming Motown Records Choir Concert.
I tried to get some pictures of Bekah too, but she was all the way on the very end!!
Lydia's in the middle, if you can see her past all the tall middle school kids.
Then finally it was time for Bekah's group to perform.  Both groups did a great job, and Rebekah turned out to be a pretty good dancer!  =) Although, I don't think she really wanted me taking her picture.
After the concerts were over, we went outside to enjoy the rest of the Spring Fling. We spent an insane amount on some shaved ice, but just look at those smiles.  It's all worth it, right?
The girls ran all over and played with their friends.  We hung out with the parents, and everyone had a great time.  A perfect, fun night.

Rebekah's Spring Band Concert

Rebekah's Spring Band Concert was tonight.  They've been preparing their five songs for quite some time now.  I've been excited for Bekah to wear this dress as well - something we purchased in advance for her band performances.
I tried to get some good pictures during the performance, but quickly realized it was futile.

I've drawn a red arrow to Rebekah in the photo below.  You can see her forehead above the conductor's music stand.  And zooming in doesn't get me a better photo.

 Oh well, they sounded GREAT!

They played a couple of marches, two other songs, and the now VERY famous song from the movie, Frozen: "Let it Go."  I'll post videos later.
So the best pictures were taken after the performance.  =)

Bekah also invited her friend, Rachel, to come and hear her play tonight.  And then we went to Sweet Cece's for some celebratory frozen yogurt!
It was a super night!!
