Who's the boss?

The girls have recently been very concerned with who is the boss. Yesterday, in a conversation with my mom, Lydia and Grandma were discussing who is the boss. Grandma informed Lydia that she was her boss.

Not to be outdone (and needing to get the last word) Lydia said,

"Well, God's your boss!"

The girls

Lydia is really missing David. Last night she brought her doll to me and said,

"My baby is crying. She is crying because she misses my huz-a-bend." ("husband" for all you out there that don't speak "Lydia-ese").

Two days ago, Rebekah grabbed a coloring page of Jesus she had gotten at church and said, "I'm going to color my God."

Rebekah continues to crack me up with the funny things she says. She's getting over a summer cold and she told me that she still feels "sickish" and that this means that she's feeling worse. She said "My heart is breaking. Every time I get sick it breaks and then, like magic, it goes back together!"

Another conversation with Rebekah the other night, while looking up at the sky:
Rebekah: Are God and Jesus in the stars?
Mommy: No, God and Jesus are above the stars in heaven.
Rebekah: Well, there's no bed in my heart. So Jesus sleeps in the stars.

Yet another Bekah question: Are the stars the moon's sons?

At the doctor the other day, Rebekah talked non-stop. She told Dr. Williams,
"My daddy is in...wait! It's a full mouth! My daddy is in the Dominican Republic and he's going to bring me back an even bigger prize than he brought me from Guatemala!" (I think she meant "mouthful.")

Answer to the quiz question!

Hello to everyone out there in blog land. Here are the photos which answer the question posed in the post dated 6/19/2006 What's going on in this picture? .

KelliDarr Superstar was the closest with her guess.
But no, my pastor is not falling off the stage. He is
stage
diving
off the stage at his daughters wedding!

I've never had a pastor like this before. It's pretty fun, though!

Just for fun

David and Rebekah ... Just for fun.

Bibbidi! Bobbidi! Boo!

Bibbidi! Bobbidi! Boo!

In case you’re in the market for magic wands, I wanted to let you know that the girls have discovered that puffed dandelions work really great. We’ve got approximately 250 in stock in our backyard. Just let me know and I can place an order for you.

Kids say the darnedest things!

I’ve been saving these up to share with you all at once. I love seeing the girls’ perspective on things and seeing how they interpret the things they hear. I hope that you find these things as funny and cute as I do.

I’ll start with Lydia.

---Instead of saying “Oh my gosh” Lydia says, “Almost gosh.”
---Lydia got dressed the other day and said, “I look like Jesus.” (I’m not exactly sure what she meant by that one.)

Next, Rebekah:

---We were praying the other night at bedtime and after we ended our prayers, “In Jesus’ name, Amen.” Rebekah looked at me and said, “Is Jesus’ name ‘Amen’?” Makes sense to me. I can see how she thought that! =)
---The girls have been learning the story of David and how God helped him escape from King Saul. They were studying about the times that David hid in caves, even building a “cave” in their class by throwing a blanket over one of the tables and eating their snack under the table! Rebekah was telling me about all that they were learning and she said, “David hid in a cave because he was scared of Santa!”

Santa?

Funny girl!

Have a happy Wednesday.

What's going on in this picture?

This is a zoomed in photo of our pastor. But that's your only hint. Can you guess what's going on in this picture? Put your guesses in the "comments" section. Can't wait to hear your guesses!!

Consider this day seized! (Saturday, June 17, 2006)

Talk about a whirlwind of a day! On Saturday morning, we got up and headed out to some yard sales. We made sure to stop by the O’Neals’ yard sale so that Rebekah could say hi to Liam. But when Liam saw us coming, he told his mom “I’m going to go take a nap” and ran inside. He was being shy and wouldn’t come out the whole time we were there. Then we ended up at a yard sale of another one of Rebekah’s classmates, Lourdes. They had fun playing while David and I check out some sandals for Lydia. We picked up three pairs of shoes and a new dress-up dress for the girls. Gloria, Lourdes’ mother, said that they bought the dress in Mexico. It is really beautiful and I think the girls are going to love playing in it.

We went home for a quick nap for the girls (and a little studying for me) and then had to hit the ground running to make it to Kyle and Janelle’s wedding. Their wedding had an Asian theme and part of the decorations was peacock feathers. Rebekah loved them! Janelle is the pastor’s daughter and we’d heard that the wedding was going to be a big party. Well, what we heard was a bit of an understatement. That was the most fun I have had at a wedding in a long time. (One of our friends said that was the most fun he had had at a wedding that he wasn’t drunk!) It was a great opportunity for us to show the girls how a wedding is supposed to be…what a celebration it is. Rebekah was entranced through the whole ceremony and David was explaining to her what was happening during the father giving the bride away, the exchanging for the vows and rings, the unity candle, etc. Lydia was a little more wiggly. She kept asking where the “married girl” was. I told her that we would get to eat after the wedding and as soon as Pastor Dale (PD) gave the bride away, Lydia asked me, “Is it time to eat now?” When the reception started, Lydia was a dancing fool! The child can cut a rug (and entertain numerous people in the process)! With a cookie in one hand, she would twirl around and around. She was actually burning off the sugar while she was eating it. The girls kept going back for more fruit and cookies. I can’t even tell you how many cookies Lydia had. At one point, Lydia jumped on the dance floor and held a pretend microphone to her lips and was singing her heart out. Rebekah danced with David during the song “Brown-Eyed Girl.” It was really sweet.

At the reception, a little girl from the congregation who is about 8 years old sang “A Part of Your World” from Little Mermaid (Janelle’s favorite song when she was little). There was apparently some sort of issue in the sound booth and she was waiting on the stage for a minute in silence. Then she held up the microphone and said, “Roll the track, guys!” The crowd busted up laughing. Only in Nashville! =-D. Janelle was singing along and at church on Sunday, PD said that seeing Janelle singing that song made him flashback to when she was a little girl and he lost it.

At the reception, Rebekah was following Janelle around and Janelle had a little chat with her. Rebekah told her that she looked like a princess. Then I got a picture of the girls with Janelle, so that Rebekah could put it in her “scrapbook” (the photo album Mammy & Pappy gave her for Christmas).

After Kyle and Janelle left in a cloud of confetti, we hung out at the church for a little while chatting with friends. The kids were playing in the parking lot and surrounding grassy areas. Rebekah was walking on a short wall (about waist high to an adult) that separated the parking lot from the grass. She fell off and landed on the asphalt. I never knew that I could run that fast in heels. She was screaming and I’m sure that it hurt, but it turned out to just be a few scrapes (thank God!). She was wearing a little sundress, so she scraped up her right shoulder, elbow and knee. She also scraped her forehead. She handled it like a trooper, though.

After that we headed over to the mall to hear Switchfoot play and then go to the carnival they were having at the mall. The girls have been anxious to go. It was SO expensive, $1 per ticket! And the ferris wheel cost 4 tickets each (and we all four went on the ferris wheel). This was Lydia’s first time on the ferris wheel. She held on really tightly. We could tell that she was a little apprehensive, but she didn’t freak out or anything. (David just said that he was glad that she was apprehensive about something!) She’s just so gung-ho about everything!

After the carnival, we headed home and Lydia didn’t even make it half-way home before she was out cold! She was worn out! When we got home, we gave the girls a bath. Lydia was out of the tub and in her room drying off and she didn’t make it back to the bathroom and went potty in the floor. David didn’t realize it and he kneeled down in it. Then, after going the rest in the toilet, she got up and didn’t realize the all of her #2 did not make it in the toilet and she went in the bathroom floor! What a night! When I was washing Rebekah, she was pouring a cup full of water on her head to rinse her hair. Then she missed and completely dumped a cup full of water in my lap. I told David how soaked I was. He said, “At least yours was water!”

So that was our Saturday in a nutshell. Whew!

Guatemala-my favorite photo (well...one of them at least)

A quick view of Guatemala from the view out David's window at the mission...

Lydia Blue Eyes

The other day I said to Lydia,
"I love you, Blue Eyes!"
and she said to me
"I love you, Mommy Eyes!"

Little Artist

Rebekah has been a busy little artist again. This time her art made me laugh so hard I cried. Her attention to detail and her honesty in her art is priceless. Where she comes up with this stuff just cracks me up. For about a year and a half, on the weekends, when the girls are taking a nap, I'm usually working in the office---either doing my homework or working on a scrapbook. Rebekah usually wakes up from her nap before Lydia does. When she does, she comes into the office and works quietly next to me, usually coloring. About a year ago, Rebekah drew a sign and "wrote" a message on it. She told me that it said, "Rebekah and Mommy are working in here." I hung the sign on the door of the office for a few days and then moved it to the wall next to the computer so that I could still enjoy it as I'm working on the computer. Two weekends ago, while David was in Guatemala, Rebekah woke up from her nap and started coloring next to me in the office. She saw the sign and asked me what it said. I told her and she said, "Is that right that only Mommy and Bekah can work in here?" I told her that really, this was Daddy's office, so Mommy, Daddy & Bekah can work in the office. She said, "Then I need to make a sign for Daddy." I thought that sounded like a great idea and she set to work.

She drew big red circle.

Then she drew a smaller orange circle and added two eyes.

Then she got our her pink pen and drew a smile.

Then she said, "What color is Daddy's hair?" I said, "It's brown." Rebekah said, "I think it's black" and got out the black color and drew some hair.

I was watching all of this as she was working. Then she got out the red marker again and I was wondering what she was going to color red.

She drew a big red line diagonally through the circle! She announced, "This says 'No fodders'!" [fathers]

I laughed so hard that I cried. I thought she was making a sign to say this was where Daddy works---not to bar him from his own office! Then she added "By Mommy + Rebekah C." She knew that "by" started with a "b" and I told her to add the "y." Such a funny girl! I noted that she added the "C" after her name for Christopher and she informed me that she wanted her name to be Rebekah Jayne Chris. She insisted this was her name for several days. =)

This next picture is one that Rebekah drew for David before he came home. This is a picture of David building a home in Guatemala. You will notice his "shoelaces" and Rebekah said that Daddy was making a silly face. He also has two bandaids on his legs "where he hit himself with the hammer." David chuckled at this one too!

Gotcha Day!

David's cousin and his wife finally have their little boy in their arms. Monday was "Gotcha Day" for Scott, Julie and Aidan. We are just so excited for them!!

They call it their castle

The girls love this church. Whenever we drive by, they say it's their castle. Rebekah says she's going to get married here. It is really a beautiful church.

Drop it!

While we were at my mom's this weekend, Rebekah and Lydia started fighting over a doll. It was getting a little heated and my mom said to Rebekah,

"Just drop it."

Rebekah looked at her quizzically and said, "You want me to drop my doll?"

Self Portraits

Just thought you would enjoy a self-portrait of Lydia.

Happy Birthday to me.

Yesterday was my birthday. We celebrated at my mom's. We'll be picking up David tonight (can't wait). He and Scott & Julie called me from Guatemala and sang happy birthday to me yesterday. It was great. I was so glad to hear from him! I can't wait to hear all of the stories and see all of the pictures!

Fun time had by all!

We got to swim in a friend's pool today. The girls really loved it. They aren't really used to swimming that much. Lydia is still pretty apprehensive being in the water. She had more fun running around the pool and throwing a ball in at various places. Rebekah was pleased that she could touch the bottom in the shallow end. She learned how to get her head under water and how to doggy paddle. Rebekah was VERY pleased that she could hold Lydia in the water and made sure that everyone knew about it.

Here's Rebekah's class photo.

Happy Birthday to my MIL!

Happy Birthday Mom! Hope you have a great birthday on Saturday! Sorry we can't be there to say this in person!!

Love,
David, Jayna, Rebekah & Lydia

What a week I've had!

This has been a crazy week and it's still not over!

I found out late last week that the last week of my current classes will overlap with the first week of my new classes. I switched to a different online program and so the calendars overlap. So, on Monday, I had two assignments due for my Business Communication class. On Tuesday, I had a huge assignment (designing a Web page) due for my Word Processing class. And my new classes officially began. Tuesday night, I completed my first two discussion assignments for my new classes (Psychology of the Personality and Principles of Management & Organizational Behavior). In the meantime, I've been working on a five page paper that is due today and I had to take my first practice quizzes in my psychology class on Tuesday. Monday, my Bus Comm teacher posted our final exam that is due on Monday. Yesterday, my Word Processing teacher posted our last chapter quiz (20 questions) and our cumulative course quiz (125 questions) and our final, which is due on Monday. My first assignment in my Principles of Management class is also due on Monday. And I haven't even started reading my text for my new classes. I guess I'm going to have a pretty busy weekend.

On Tuesday, I went to renew my driver license before it expires. When I get back to the office, I have a message from the sitter that Lydia opened the back door and Bear got out. It had been 20 minutes since she left the message. I called her back and she said that they had gone outside and called for him, but they haven't seen him. Well, I couldn't just sit at work worried about Bear. Willow really had no way of looking for him and I was afraid he would get hurt, since he isn't used to being outside by himself. So, I drove home (25 minutes) and looked all over the neighborhood calling for Bear and then went to neighboring neighborhoods when I couldn’t find him. I was praying the whole time. Then, after searching for over 30 minutes with no results, I went in the house. I told Lydia that she was in trouble for opening the door (something she knows she’s not supposed to do…and something Willow had just gotten on to her about) and letting Bear out. Then, Willow opened our bedroom door and out walks Bear! He was home the whole time! Willow just said, “I am SO sorry.” I have to admit that I was pretty mad for losing an hour and a half of work time (because then I had to drive 25 minutes back to the office) and the gas I wasted. But I was glad that Bear was safe and sound where he was supposed to be. I just didn’t want to tell David that I lost the dog while he was gone!

On Saturday, our car started acting funny. We took it over to some friends’ house so that they could take a look at it. At first, they thought that it was a battery problem, but then they said they thought it might be the alternator. The car shop doesn’t open until Monday, so my friends let me borrow their car (great friends!) until our car was fixed. They even took the car to the shop for me! The car was finally fixed on Tuesday (faulty battery) and we were able to pick it up.

Then, last night was a bit of a comedy of errors. I'm sure it would be funny to watch. Anyway, Bear scratched his leg and he's been licking it so it hasn’t been healing. So the girls and I sat down to bandage him up, so that he couldn't get to it for a little while. We were just sitting down to do it when the doorbell rang. Before I could stop her and before I could look out the peephole, Lydia opened the door. There were two teenage-ish looking boys on the front porch. They then opened the glass door and despite my saying, "No, no. Don't let him out." they let Bear out the door. I made them go chase him and bring him back. Then they stood on the front porch and made their spiel. One was mentally handicapped and the other said he was his brother. The brother said that his brother has the opportunity to win a trip to Europe, but he has to get 50 sponsors in order to do it. Then he let the mentally handicapped boy say his sales pitch, which I didn't really understand because we were talking through the glass door. Then they handed me a brochure and the brother said, "We're selling magazine subscriptions and for every one he sells, he gets an extra 500 points. I know that a lot of people don't really need any magazine subscriptions, but if you wanted to buy one for one of the troops or for a local hospital, you can do that too." When I told him that I really couldn't, he got all smart and said, "Well, do you know if any of your NEIGHBORS would support the YOUTH (even though they don't look like it)?" I said that I really didn't. Then he said sarcastically, "Well, just keep on supporting the youth. I hope you go to heaven." As they were walking off, I told him that they were rude and that they were not to come back. I went back inside and told Lydia why it was very important not to open the door without Mommy because those boys were mean boys. We bandaged Bear's leg (the girls are pretty good pet doctors) and then I went to look outside to see if those boys had a mother in a car or something, because it really hacked me off with them talking to me like that, especially in front of the girls. It's not like 50 other teenagers, school children, family members, co-workers, and formerly homeless people haven't already tried to sell us a magazine subscription. And for all I know, how do I know that the older brother wasn't really the one selling the subscriptions and that he just brought his brother along for sympathy sales? Anyway, I didn't see a car, but I did see them talking to Michelle across the street. I was going to go over there and talk to Michelle after they left. Then they went to Vance and Valerie's and I heard Valerie say that she already had too many magazines. I went over there to talk to Valerie after they left and that boy yelled at me across the street mimicking what I guess he thought I was going to say to Valerie, "Oh! Were they rude to you like they were rude to me? Those rude boys." Boy that ticked me off. So I called the Spring Hill Police Department and asked if they could send a police car over because we had two teenage boys being a nuisance in the neighborhood. The dispatch lady was very nice and said that what they were doing was definitely something they would help me with. I told her that I don't mind people going door to door, but they don't have to get nasty when you can't buy something. I told her that they had already left my house, but I didn't think that the rest of the neighborhood should be subjected to them. I didn't appreciate them saying such mean things in front of my family and yelling across to me in my own neighborhood. Anyway, a few minutes later, I saw a police car pull into the neighborhood, so I guess he took care of them.

Then, Lydia dumped out that big tub of foam stickers. She was taking FOREVER cleaning them up. It was over by the window in the kitchen next to the dining room table. She had kept hiding behind the curtain in the kitchen window and I guess some of the curtain was over the chair closest to the window. Anyway, I went over to sit in the chair to talk to her about cleaning up quicker and I sat on the curtain and it pulled the curtain rod off the wall. What a mess. It pulled the screws out of the wall (and they were anchored). David will have a hole to patch when he gets home! With Rebekah's help, I managed to get the curtain rod down so that it wouldn't snap from leaning down on one side. I considered just leaving the curtains down, but I knew that without the curtains the kitchen would be a furnace during the day. So I decided that I would just put the curtain rod back up myself. I could NOT find the drill anywhere! I have no idea where it is. Anyway, I finally just got out a screwdriver and after dropping the screws a few times and the screwdriver once, I managed to get the curtain rod back up on the wall. After that, I was quite pleased with myself.

Well, that didn't last too long, because then Bekah spilled an entire glass of apple juice all over the kitchen floor. I don't mean she tipped it over on the table and dripped in the floor. I mean she dropped it in the kitchen floor and it went everywhere: on my bag, my purse, the floor, the clean laundry in the laundry basket, and Bekah of course. So, I had to get all that REALLY cleaned up because I can just imagine how happy the ants would be doing a conga line on my sticky kitchen floor!

So, there you have it! My week in a nutshell. Crazy, huh?

Happy Thursday! I’d better run. I’ve got three audits to prepare for next week!

Here's a picture, just because after reading all this, you should get to see some really cute kids!

Little Divas

We went to a friends house for dinner a couple of weeks ago and the girls had fun playing dress up with Jessica. They really thought they were hot stuff! I know that they would dress this way every day if I let them!

The grass

I cut the grass!

Yes, I cut the grass.

By myself.

With Rebekah yelling, "Yea Mommy!"

Rebekah said that when you cut the grass you're supposed to be all sweaty and take your shirt off.

I did NOT take my shirt off.
