Operation Christmas Child Boxes
It's that time of year again! We've been working on our Operation Christmas Child boxes.
We had already chosen a lot of fun things to include in our boxes. The girls chose some fun wrapping paper and we set to work.
Lydia chose to make her box for a 5-9 year old girl. She included a warm hat, a princess charm bracelet, some rainbow loom bands, a brush, suckers, a candy cane, a little bucket, notebook, erasers, chapstick, socks, pencils, sewing kit, a headband with blond hair (ha!), change purse, necklace, gum, mirror, Barbie doll, marbles scissors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and magic markers.
Bekah chose to make her box for an 11-14 year old girl. She included the following: a craft kit, warm hat, toe socks, pencils, toothbrushes/toothpaste, candy cane, gomu erasers, a bath loofa, rainbow loom bands, marbles, pencils, two mirrors, a Slinky, change purse, sewing kit, erasers, gum, suckers, necklace, bracelets, beads, scissors, a little bucket and a notebook
We fit a lot of stuff in these boxes!
I'm excited to find out where they end up!

Good News & Bad News
Well, there's good news and bad news.
So, bad news first.
I was in a car accident and totaled my car.

Rebekah and I were leaving Lauren's birthday party. We started to pull out of the neighborhood and a lady driving a black car was coming down the road without her lights on. I saw her when she entered the ring of light from the street light, but it was too late. I slammed on my brakes and laid on the horn. She tried to stop, but couldn't. She hit us in the front, driver's side of the car.
It doesn't look like there's that much damage to my car, but the car is old and the replacement parts are expensive. The car is 18 years old, after all. But it's been such a good car, I was so sad to see it go.
So, now the good news:
1. Neither Rebekah nor I were hurt;
2. The accident was ruled 100% the other woman's fault;
and
3. My insurance company gave me a decent price for my car and we put it toward this.

It's a Nissan Cube.
I did tons of research on the safest cars with the most room and the best mileage. This one had lots of good reviews and an excellent safety rating.
So we're excited about our new addition!

Rebekah's 2nd Quarter Choir Videos
Here are a few videos from Rebekah's choir performance. My camera is dying, so the video was acting up. I promise my hand wasn't shaking that much. At least you can hear them really well!

Rebekah's Second Quarter Choir Concert
Rebekah's middle school choir had a joint choir concert with the high school choir last night. I was really impressed with the high school choir.
I think it's great that the middle school kids got to see their performance so they know what they have to look forward to in high school. The different choirs had different subgroups that did various performances throughout the night.
But when they were all together it was a huge group!
I didn't get any really great pictures of Bekah, unfortunately. But later we learned that her feet were killing her. They had been rehearsing since 5:00, with the conference starting at 7:00 and then lasting until 8:30. She'd been on her feet the whole time. But the groups sounded really beautiful. I'll try to post some videos later.
After the concert, we went out and celebrated Bekah's great performance with some Sweet Cece's! =)

Lydia's Artwork
Lydia came home from school yesterday with some fun things she has made in Art class. I just love seeing how her mind works.
In this picture, she drew a scene with trees. Only the trunks of the trees are actually Crayola markers. And the leaves are the colors of the marker.
And I really love the roots going down into the ground.
This next one, Lydia drew paint brushes on each of her fingers and a pallet on her hand.
Kinda different and fun. I like it. =)
And this last one, Lydia said was what you could see in a dream. So the eye is portraying what was in the dream.
She didn't call it this, but to me it reminds me a "my mind's eye." Very neat and creative.
I just love this stuff!!

My Pumpkin: What Does the Fox Say About Carving Your Thumb?
So, you may have noticed...
I never got around to posting a picture of MY pumpkin.
I was so excited to make a pumpkin for the "What Does the Fox Say?" music video (that's super popular right now). I totally tried to get one of the girls to dress up like a fox for Halloween. But they wouldn't go for the idea.
So I settled with making a pumpkin.

Well, here it is. Only, I didn't carve it. Well, I carved the left ear and started carving the tuft of hair at the top of the head...
And then I did this.

I carved my thumb. Jabbed the knife through the skin between my thumb and my palm.
You know how you teach your kids, "Always cut away from your hands."
Well, hopefully they will do what I say and not what I did (because I totally didn't follow my own advice).
So David finished up carving my pumpkin. It looks so cute on the front porch with Dr. Who and Jack.
Since there were tornadoes/rains for Halloween, the town extended trick-or-treating one more day. So these are our November pumpkins and candy on the porch. So I'm glad for that, at least. The little fox that I drew and David carved got to be seen.
And in case you have no idea what I'm talking about, The Fox, is a song written by these brothers from Norway. They are hilarious. Here are some of the lyrics from the song (along with the link to the music video). It's pretty funny, and our family has watched it quite a bit. =)
The Fox - by Ylvis
Dog goes woof, Cat goes meow
Bird goes tweet, And mouse goes squeak
Cow goes moo, Frog goes croak
And the elephant goes toot
Ducks say quack, And fish go blub
And the seal goes ow ow ow
But there's one sound
That no one knows
What does the fox say?
