A crush

Wednesday night, Rebekah told me about a little boy that she likes at school.

His name is Eric and "he is just so cute I could stare at him all day."

She told Angel she liked him and Angel told Eric.

How devastating for an 8 year old.

After a chat about how Angel can't keep a secret and how she could cut out a lot of drama by not discussing who she likes (since she's not old enough to have a boyfriend anyway), Rebekah said,

"I think I have a crush on him...what's a crush?"

So after explaining what a crush was, I sent Bekah to the store with David to go pick out a new lunchbox (since hers broke).

I gave David a "heads up" about our conversation.

"Who's this Eric?" he asked.

"Just a boy in her class," I said.

"Well, I don't like him." he said.
*grin*

So, gently, while at the store, David asks Rebekah, "So, what were you and Mama talking about?"

So Bekah explained all about Eric and how cute he is, "but don't worry...Mommy already told me I'm not old enough to have a boyfriend!"

"So what did Mama say about it?" he asked.

"She said 'So what did you learn?'" She replied.

"Angel can't keep a secret." says David.

"That's what Mama said!"

"So," David said, "What exactly is it about this Eric that you like so much?"

"Well," she began, "He lost both of his top front teeth.
And they've grown back in.
And they're kinda big, like a bunny.
And bunnies are cute.
And he looks like a bunny and he's just SO CUTE!
I just can't stop staring at him!
I could stare at him all day!"

(Read this in you best dramatic little girl voice.)

David, dumbfounded, looks at her and says, "That's it?! That's all you've got for me? He looks like a rabbit?"

(I thought I was going to die laughing!)

A good way to handle what?

Monday night, the girls and I had an absolutely wonderful night. They both got their homework done quickly. I got dinner put away and lunches made for the next day. And then we played Memory and had a great time. (The girls are really good at that game.)

Then, after I had tucked them into bed, Bekah got up wanting to change her earrings...obviously just wanting to stay up a little later.

I told her we would do it in the morning and she argued and we went back and forth for a few sentences before I got firm and told her there would be no arguing and she needed to go back to bed.

Then Lydia got up and in the sweetest honey voice said, "Mommy, I'm so sorry that you're having such a frustrating night."

I said, "Lydia, I'm not having a frustrating night. I've had a great night. I just don't like for someone to argue with me."

And she said, "Mommy, I am so sorry for all of the people who argued with you today.

"I'm not sorry for me, because I didn't do it, but I'm saying I'm sorry for them.

"And if they argued with you and it was their fault, then I will not say 'thank you' to them.

"But if you told them how you feel, then I will say 'thank you' to you...

...because that is a great way to handle your temperature."

Yeah, I totally busted out laughing! (And told her to get back in bed.) Funny girl.

Bear vs. Sam

I let Bear out in the backyard to do his business.

As he was going, Lydia said, "Oh gross! Bear is going #2 in our grass!

Bear shouldn't go #2 in the grass! That's so gross!"

And I said, "Well, then, where else is he supposed to go if he can't go in the grass?"

And Lydia said, "Well, when Grandma takes Sam into her yard, he goes #1 in the grass...

...and he goes #2 in her living room."

Right.

Bear's the one that's got that backwards! How dare he mess up our yard??

How appropriate for post 901...

Wow! I've posted to this blog 900 times.

Crazy.

Had to post this bit of random information I just found...something I know that Dana will go look up and share with her kids once she reads this. Ha ha!

I just learned about Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.

Yes, it is a real place. And yes, I think that's how you spell it. Look it up. It's a lake in Massachusetts.

The old myth is that the lake’s Indian name is reportedly Nipmuc (Algonquian) for “You fish on your side; I fish on my side; nobody fishes in the middle.”

Don't know if this is accurate or not, but in the meantime, the lake is commonly called Lake Webster.

Our friend Karl took these pictures. Just wanted to share them as well. Just check out the one of Lydia throwing the cannonball! Ha!

Rebekah's Pirate Party

Saturday we celebrated Rebekah’s birthday with a pirate party! She’s been planning it for over six months now and we actually pulled it off!!

We all got in on the act and got costumes.
Here we are in front of our pirate ship. David added the plank and the mast with the skull and crossbones sail. Here are a few pirate family pics. I’m so happy with how the costumes all came together!!

Lydia had no trouble getting into her role at all!

The kids started arriving and I was so pleased to see that most of them had come in costume!

We had a few eye patches and hooks to add to what they were already wearing and everyone looked so great.

Here’s Mercey doing her best pirate face.

And Jessica.

And Isabella.

And Lydia with Norika.

Here are some of the kids goofing off on the ship while everyone arrived.

First we got a picture of all the kids on the pirate ship. (Click on it to see it bigger.)

Then the first game we played was cannonball pop. The kids each had a cannonball (balloon) tied to their ankles. Then they had to try to pop each other’s cannonballs without getting their own popped. The last one to have their cannonball not popped won. (Isabella won!)

Then they played “scurvy tag.” It’s like freeze tag, only to get unfrozen someone has to hand you an orange. Bekah and I came up with that one! Ha ha! Only Bekah got hooked in the mouth during the game. Sarah tried to tag her with her hook and got her right under the tongue! Ouch!!

Then the kids hit targets with cannonballs (balloons filled with rice).

Then they walked the plank. (Check out Bekah in the air!!)

The object was to pop a balloon – which had a pirate tattoo inside.

And no pirate party would be complete without a hunt for pirate treasure! Kayla found where it was hidden. David opened up the treasure to reveal the NINE POUNDS of candy inside!! (He threw it into the yard and the kids gathered up their pirate booty!)

We had to head inside after this because it started to rain a little. Here are the kiddos in front of the treasure map.

Then it was time for cake and ice cream.

And presents.

Rebekah got a lot of really great stuff – Webkinz, Littlest Pet Shop, planting/gardening supplies, and Barbie stuff. And then Isabella got to spend the night.

It all went really great and we were SO EXHAUSTED! But it was so great!!!

Final sneak peek of the pirate party...

Made the pirate flag and the

cannonball target tonight. David's just got to cut out the holes in the target for the cannon balls to go through.

...and figure out how to mount the pirate flag/sail on the ship, and we should be good to go.

Now, as long as it doesn't rain, we should be good!
